Norman Gillespie

Norman Gillespie Norman Gillespie is Chief Executive of UNICEF Australia and a vocal advocate for child rights. Providing a voice for the underrepresented, Dr Gillespie has spoken out for child rights both domestically and internationally, and has seen UNICEF’s work on the frontline in Kenya, Pakistan, China, Laos and Zimbabwe.
He brings experience from the commercial, arts and philanthropic sectors, having held major roles as CEO of the Sydney Opera House for five years and CFO and Deputy CEO of Optus. He has also been involved in several Not for Profit agencies including Deputy Chairman of the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Board Director for the Australian Business Arts Foundation, and Board Director of the Sydney Convention and Visitors Bureau. Dr Gillespie currently sits on the Editorial Advisory Committee for The Global Mail, and as Board Director of Pinchgut Opera.
He is passionate about education as the most effective and sustainable investment to break the cycle of poverty which causes such inequity in developing countries. Dr Gillespie is a frequent media commentator on child rights and international aid. In May 2013 Dr Gillespie was appointed to UNICEF's worldwide Executive Standing Group of National Committees.
