Jill Emberson

Jill Emberson has been presenting Mornings on 1233 ABC Newcastle since 2009. Her daily talk-back program explores Hunter issues, as well as international and national news and current affairs, live music and local profiles. The 1233 Mornings series “Hooked on Heroin” has been nominated for a Walkley Award for Excellence in Journalism.

Prior to Newcastle, Jill worked in communications roles in financial services, the environment movement and Pacific Island development. In New Caledonia she spent four years at the Pacific Womens’ Resource Bureau producing communications materials and running communications training programs for Pacific women.

As a freelance radio producer Jill covered the 2008 coronation of the King of Tonga for Radio Australia and Radio National. Her documentary, “The Ties That Bind”, was short listed for a UN Media Peace Prize.

Jill started in media in the 2JJJ newsroom, going on to co-present JJJ’s first morning talk show. On the science show Quantum, Jill covered ABC TV’s first stories on Aboriginal science and technology.
