Geoff Gallop AC

Geoff Gallop Geoff Gallop was born and raised in Geraldton, Western Australia and undertook tertiary studies at the University of WA, Oxford University and Murdoch University. In 1986, Geoff was elected a Member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly, a position he held until retiring from politics in 2006. Professor Gallop was a Minister in the Lawrence Labor Government from 1990 to 1993, the Leader of the Opposition from 1996 to 2001 and the Premier of Western Australia from 2001 to 2006. After retiring from politics, Geoff was appointed Professor and Director of the Graduate School of Government, The University of Sydney, a position he still holds. Geoff has been honoured with Life Membership of the Association for the Blind (Western Australia), was elected a Fellow of the Institute of Pubic Administration Australia and was admitted to the Honorary degree of Doctor of Letters by Murdoch University. He also holds the position of Deputy Chair of the Council of Australian Government’s Reform Council and is a member of the National Health & Hospitals Reform Commission. In 2008, Geoff was made a Companion of the Order of Australia.
