Development in Good Faith?
The influence of faith on the lives of much of the world’s population is undeniable, with 80% identifying with a religion. In many countries faith is fundamental to the way society operates, influencing the way people form relationships, lead their daily lives and approach issues like community development, poverty alleviation and inequality.
So how does this apply in the context of delivering aid and international development?

Protecting Mother and Child:
A Global Imperative
Imagine living in a world where one of the most dangerous things you can do is get pregnant. For mothers living in some parts of the world, this can be the reality.
Every day
approximately 800 women die needlessly from preventable diseases related to pregnancy and child birth. And despite incredible medical advancements made in maternal and child healthcare, in some countries a mother is still more likely to die in childbirth than she is to finish secondary school.
With so many mothers and children dying needlessly each day, can it truly be said that this problem is getting the attention it deserves? Is enough is being done to protect mothers and their children? And what can we, as an international community and global citizens, do to help?

Lost in Translation? Development versus Tradition:
Proudly appearing as part of the Melbourne Writers Festival
Around the world today there is devastating poverty, disadvantage and inequality. As conscientious and caring global citizens, NGO’s and individuals swoop into the developing world to provide assistance, support and relief to those in need. Yet while many positive outcomes have been achieved in the delivery of aid programs, there are also ripple effects which can prove devastating to those who are supposed to be benefitting – people whose culture is often crucial to their sense of identity.
