About One Just World
One Just World is a national series of free, after-work speakers’ forums aimed at involving the community in conversation and debate on key international development issues facing Australia, the Asia-Pacific and beyond.
It is a partnership between World Vision Australia, the International Women’s Development Agency (IWDA), AusAID and a University in each state. From time to time we partner other NGOs and events such as CBM Australia, the Geography Teachers Association of Victoria and the WOMADelaide Music Festival.
One Just World was launched in July 2008 at Melbourne’s Federation Square by Bob McMullan, Parliamentary Secretary for International Development Assistance, and has so far held 22 successful forums in capital cities around Australia. Forums are scheduled monthly from February to December.
The forums’ objectives are to:
- Build a well informed and engaged community which is responsive and supportive of development initiatives by the Australian and partner governments, non government organisations and communities across the region
- Encourage active participation in development assistance programs through volunteering, pro bono support, donating, advocating for and working in the sector
- Make visible and communicate the gender dimensions of each topic, and the overall relationship between addressing gender inequality and achieving development objectives.
